A large French Renaissance oak chest, late 16th century or early 17th century. Probably from Normandy. The center panel with a mythological scene flanked by fluted columns with Corinthian capitals. Nicely carved borders.
62" wide, 36" high, 27" deep.
Condition: In overall good condition for its age; sturdy and strong. The top originally attached with loop hinges at the back, now modified with butt hinges as shown. Scattered worm holes, mostly at the base; replaced feet, and a later lock.
