A fine and attractive French Renaissance walnut dressoir (or credence) of varying age.
The doors, five caryatids, and the frieze from the top section are the original parts from a 16th century dressoir that were incorporated to a framework constructed at a later time. The remaining elements are newer (including the griffins, I believe) or re-used early parts taken from other pieces. The lower central panel is 16th century, with restorations.
In sturdy usable condition, with an attractive patina. Some small chips, mainly in the two large griffins in the lower section. Worm damage in the lower central panel. 19th century locks are present (but one is removed to prevent the door from being locked because there are no keys).
Height 60", width 48", depth 22".
