A walnut cassone, with rectangular frames and shield in the front center; Tuscany, 16th century.

 

Width 68", height 22.5", depth 22.5".

 

Condition: Scattered small repairs on the lid, with some replaced blocks under the rim; many small filled nail holes, missing piece on front apron.  Retains its original feet and apron.  

 

Comparables: A nearly identical example is pictured in "Furniture and Interior Decoration of the Italian Renaissance", by Frida Schottmuller, 1921, page 56, from the National-Museum, Darmstadt Germany (see photo).
