A large English bronze mortar, stamped "GILBERT SMYETH 1601" with three stamped fleur-de-lis. Two protruding handles. Includes iron-strapped wood cover (rare to have cover present) and 18.5" iron pestal.
Height 8.5", diameter 10.5" (without iron and wood cover). Weight 52 lbs (without iron and wood cover or pestal).
Excellent condition with original patina. Cover is original to this mortar, but date of manufacture is indeterminable.
